How Biological Filtration Works

As water flows through and around the ceramic media, two things happen at once: it absorbs oxygen and it gets biologically cleaned. This action feeds the denitrification cycle, breaking down waste that would otherwise cloud your water and harm your fish.

The slotted tray floors let water drip from one level to the next, while dividing partitions inside each tray guide the flow across the media, repeating the process again and again as it descends. By the time it reaches the outlets, the result is clean, clear, and highly-oxygenated water. This unit holds approximately 6-7 boxes of ceramic media (sold separately), giving beneficial bacteria plenty of surface to colonize.
